Parents Of Past Students Speak Highly Of Our School

JACKIE CAMERON SCHOOL OF FOOD AND WINE

Within six years, award-winning chef, Jackie Cameron, owner of the renowned Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine, has delivered top graduates to the culinary industry.

Past students are testament to the high standard demanded for this sought-after, mentoring course that produces respected chefs - a cut above the rest. And, as guaranteed by Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine, all graduates have been placed in permanent positions - made possible because of the demand for leavers from this culinary institution. The school boasts exemplary results and sets a benchmark for future students.

Former students Arnie Muller and Tatum McCraw’s parents approved of their respective children’s choice of culinary institution “because of the school’s remarkable reputation”. Audrey Bierman quoted Chef Reuben Riffel when she succinctly stated: “If you want to be the best, you have to train with the best.” Kevin McCraw was impressed the way “fellow chefs admire and support Jackie Cameron and her students”.

All these achievements are the result of hard work, commitment and dedication. And Jackie expects her students to be as hardworking, committed and dedicated as she is. Does she work them hard? According to Cheri Kustner’s mother, Debbie Enraght-Moony, “Jackie told us how strict she was, so we were warned. I believe discipline is good for the students. They’ll need it in the workplace.”

Kevin McCraw disclosed that Tatum acknowledged Jackie was hard on her students, but that Tatum knew their best interests were always at heart - that she was preparing them for life and the challenges the industry would throw at them. “She is grateful that Jackie was tough on them,” he said.

Most parents of former students commented on the difference Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine had made to their children’s self-confidence. “My daughter is no longer dependent,” said Tahila Pillay’s mother, Cheryl Govender Gillig. “She is determined and has become pedantic about everything she does. She is confident, highly knowledgeable, and not afraid to ask if she is not sure. She stands up for herself and is quick to help wherever she can.”

Tatum’s self-confidence is thanks to Jackie pushing her students to do what they thought was beyond them,” added Kevin McCraw. “I would not have chosen any other chef school for my daughter.”

Audrey Bierman remembers Arnie, as a shy young boy starting at the school - “a confident young man able to stand up for himself and make his voice heard, emerged”. And would she recommend this school?  “I would not hesitate to suggest Jackie Cameron School of Food and Wine to anybody who wishes to receive the best training, support and even friendship, in the culinary industry. You will not get such a full package anywhere else.”

Confirming Audrey’s comment, Jordin Shelly’s mother Lee Shelly, added, “I don’t believe there is anywhere else in South Africa that gives students the training that they get at Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine. It’s quite incredible what they learn in such a short time.

The school has a maximum annual intake of 15 students. "Hands-on" is Jackie's philosophy, and “don’t ever give up” her motto. The students work alongside her daily, and the school provides the opportunity to experience all things foodie in a safe and secure environment. Jackie believes there is more to food than working in a top restaurant - locally or internationally.

"I’m enjoying sharing with my students all that I have been fortunate to have learnt – and experienced," she says, adding that her aim is to impart this knowledge, and to equip the students with the skills to 'go it alone' with confidence. She is ahead of the game on all levels as she guides students to create a balanced-and-healthy lifestyle in this “crazy, but extremely rewarding, industry”.
