Gluhwein Recipe

“With the erratic and unpredictable climatic conditions we are currently experiencing, I always have my favourite gluhwein recipe close at hand. Remember not to boil, only simmer the wine otherwise all the alcohol will evaporate and the effect will be... let’s say disappointing.”
Gluhwein Recipe
Makes : 900ml
Ingredients:
250ml White Sugar
250ml Water
2 Cinnamon Sticks
12 Whole Cloves
750ml Red Wine
Method:
In a saucepan, stir the sugar, water and cinnamon sticks until the sugar has dissolved. Bring to the boil, turn down the heat and allow to simmer.
Cut the oranges in half, squeeze the juice into the simmering liquid, then push the cloves into the outside of the orange peel and place in the liquid.
Continue simmering for 30 minutes. Until the liquid is thick and syrupy.
Add the wine, and heat until steaming hot, but not boiling. Strain the liquid and serve.
