Dedicated Students Rise to Wedding Occasion
My Student Wedding Feast
One of the countless highlights of the meal - which comprised many interesting and tasty delights - were little, individual bread boards. They required hours of hard work and today I’m sharing two of the items on that board. It’s an irresistible chilli bites and patta recipe that Ramola Makan, the proud ambassador of Elba, taught me many years ago. We use Elba cookers, an Italian designed-and-manufactured brand, in the school.
December was a busy month with numerous functions for the students who gained valuable work-place experience and happy clients proved our prowess. The year rounded off with Ben Wessels and my wedding where our ‘foodie’ guest were astonished by the students’ commitment to their chosen careers – they were super impressed.
For the students in their last semester, the new year started with the internationally-recognised Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) course with Laurie Smorthwaite of Abingdon Wine Estate in the Midlands. We await their results.
The 2017/2018 students left the school two weeks ago, and the intake for 2018/2019 started two days later. I shall introduce you to the new students in the upcoming months. But for now we celebrate the 2017/2018 students who are doing their respective workplace practical with renowned chefs at prominent places such as: La Colombe, Constantia Cape Town (Scot Kirton); Chefs Table, Umhlanga Rocks (Kayla-Ann Osborn); Boschendal Wine Estate, Franschhoek (Christiaan Campbell); île de païn, Knysna (Markus Farbinger and Liezie Mulder); Foliage Restaurant, Franschhoek (Chris Erasmus); Reuben’s, Franshoek (Reuban Riffel); Fresh Living Magazine (Justine Drake); Hartford House, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands (Constantjin Hahndiek); Greenhouse Restaurant, Constantia (Peter Tempelhoff); Test Kitchen, Cape Town (Luke Dale-Roberts); Marble, Rosebank Joburg (David Higgs).
