Chicken Curry with Keilan Chetty

Maritzburg College past-pupils, Keilan Chetty and Dylan Pretorius-Spires, who are among this year’s intake, generate a great deal of banter in the kitchen. They are also inspiring other young guys to consider a career in the culinary industry.

Over the years, many young people have visited Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine so that they can experience, first-hand, all we have to offer. This gives them the opportunity to make an informed decision before enrolling.

My next introduction is to Keilan Chetty who is pleased to have chosen to join us here in Hilton. “I have learnt so much about food and cooking,” he says, adding that he, also, has learnt so much more about himself. “The past few months have been stressful and a lot of work, but we are being instructed day-by-day how to manage and overcome obstacles. I definitely enjoy being here. Even I have noticed a character change in myself.”

Keilan is certain that The Witness readers will enjoy his chicken curry recipe. “It’s a dish you can always rely on,” he says, with a knowing smile. “Last-minute meals at home always resulted in our dependable chicken curry and rice. It’s a tasty, inexpensive meal that takes little time to prepare – and is always well received. I’m sure you will agree when you savour the flavours on one of our cold, winter nights.

What better than a flavour-filled curry on a chilly evening? Please send us your remarks about the recipes our students share with you.
