“It’s an absolute blessing that I have a committed, enthusiastic aunt who ensures the admin department at my school runs in a smooth and orderly fashion,” explains Jackie, with the look of gratitude in her eyes.
Bee – now in her retirement years - has oodles of career and life experiences, from temporary assignments that included working at UKZN and in the Mayor’s Parlour, to full-time positions at Maritzburg College and UWP Consulting (Pty) Ltd. This knowledge she shares with Jackie, who admits she would not get through the school’s demanding workload without her right-hand lady and dedicated aunt.
Taking on more and more each day, Bee is always open to trying - and creating - new systems, designs and procedures. Her professionalism, precision and true allegiance to Jackie and the school are an inspiration; and are traits to which the career-driven youth should aspire. Keeping Jackie on track is a daily – sometimes trying - task but, in her firm yet gentle way, Bee manages to keep the school’s administrative wheels well oiled. One look at her desk tells the story of an organised, task-driven person who believes in clearing her inbox and her in-tray every day.
Jackie’s ‘Aunt Indispensible’ has put retirement on the back burner. For how long? She cannot say. But, with her beyond-the-call-of-duty input at the school, one expects to see Bee here for many years to come.
