Michaelhouse masterchef competition

This year's MasterChef competition hosted by Michaelhouse in collaboration with the Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine was truly a culinary extravaganza to remember. As the event unfolded, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the talent and enthusiasm displayed by the participating schools and their students.

Bringing together nine schools and over 120 students, this culinary showdown for high schools was a unique opportunity for young chefs to showcase their skills. Throughout the competition, all sixteen teams representing schools such as Maris Stella, Treverton, Hilton College, St. John's DSG, St. Mary's, Pietermaritzburg Girls, Durban Girls College, and, of course, Michaelhouse, displayed their culinary prowess with unwavering passion. It was clear that these talented individuals had dedicated countless hours to perfecting their craft.

To recognize the exceptional efforts of the participants, five prestigious awards were presented during the event. These included the coveted titles of "Best Dessert," "Best Main Course," "Best Junior Team," "Best Senior Team," and the esteemed "Hygiene Award." Each award was a testament to the hard work and dedication put forth by these young students.

What made this year's competition even more special was the participation of three accomplished guest judges who lent their expertise to the event. Chef Zandy Armstrong, the Resident Chef at Artisan Bistro, Michaelhouse old boy Alex Poltera, and the well-loved chef from Garlington's Bistro and Deli, were joined by the award-winning Head Chef Renzo Hamblin to assist in awarding prizes.

An impressive assortment of prizes was distributed to all the winners, adding to the excitement and rewarding nature of the competition.
