Fine Cuisine and Wine with Chaîne des Rôtisseurs

The JCR competition took place at the Unilever Foodsolution Head Office, Umhlanga, Durban on Thursday 25 October 2018. The competitors were:

  • Bevashen Naidoo – Tsogo Sun Elangeni & Maharani Hotel

  • Mandisa Valentia Nokuzola Sicina – Oyster Box Hotel

  • Kate Cousins – Jackie Cameron School of Food and Wine

  • Catherine Chetty – Beverly Hills Hotel

  • Eugene Ramcharan – Beverly Hills Hotel

The contestants arrived at 7:00am and then a quick brief from the convener of Judges and committee members as well as Brad Kavanagh our kitchen judge for the morning. Good luck was conveyed to the competitors by Bailli Delegue Phillip Mostert. The first competitor started menu writing at 8:00am and began cooking at 8:30am. The students from both Capsicum Culinary Studio and Jackie Cameron School of Food and Wine were the assistance for the day in the kitchen.

These students were able to observe new methods and exiting ideas, they were all extremely excited to have been part of this prestigious event. Judging was done in the room adjacent to the kitchen and went off without a hitch. The last contestant completed cooking at 12:30pm.

The positions were as follows:

  • 1st: Kate Cousins – Jackie Cameron School of Food and Wine

  • 2nd: Catherine Chetty – Beverly Hills Hotel

  • 3rd: Bevashen Naidoo – Tsogo Sun Elangeni & Maharani Hotel
