The Culinary Equipment Company sells hard-to-find and high-quality kitchen appliances, tools and accessories to discerning clientele; and represents craftsmen, manufacturers with best practices that span the widest range of categories available from a single culinary company in South Africa.

One such brand is Charvet that has been crafted since 1934. Like the French Alps that surround the factory, Charvet has designed cooking ranges meant to last and perform by ensuring the use of superior materials and manufacturing processes. They are designed with chefs in mind and simplicity makes them precise while ensuring they are easy to clean and maintain post service. Chefs are also rewarded with high-performance and a wide range of dimensions and cooking systems which offer flexibility for almost any kitchen application.

Apart from professional ranges, many of the items are for enthusiastic cooks at home.
The business started when Wehrner Gutstadt, the founder and an industry visionary, wanted to furnish his kitchen with a functional, aesthetic cooker that he’d seen while traveling abroad. To his disappointment he discovered that the South African market was lacking in a high-quality range cooker for people who wanted ‘that little bit more’ in their kitchens.


After months of research he contacted Lacanche in France to order a stove directly; so what began as a private purchase turned into a labour of love. Air-freighted shipments of cookers and pots for colleagues grew into what is dubbed South Africa’s ultimate kitchen shop. Operating out of Lanseria in Gauteng, with branches across South Africa, Culinary Equipment Company has developed into a business that has earned its title.
